Britain’s most successful amateur golfer of the post-war era, and one of golf’s most pre-eminent administrators, passed away on September 26 in St Andrews, Scotland at the age of 88.

Ed was involved in several golf course ventures in the Barrie area including Golf Haven (Harbourview), National Pines, Cedar Links and Innisbrook.
Prior to leading club operations at Summit Golf Club, St. George’s Golf and Country Club and La Gorce Country Club, Leggatt served as Vice President of Golf at Wasserman Media Group.

I made a lot of mistakes. When I had early success, I convinced myself that I was working hard but when you look at the successful players, you have to treat it like a job and work harder than anyone else.
I just can’t stand watching girls cry or playing with the dandelions in the outfield so why don’t we try something else that we could spend time doing together.
“I had been passed up for the national team and, yeah, had a chip on my shoulder, which I enjoy having. I like being an underdog because it motivated me then and it motivates me now.”
“I had never been a head coach but even though I figured I may be too young; I wanted the job, so I went for it; saying and doing all the right things.”
Four years into the role, Leon is amazed and humbled that “Two guys from Toronto” are charged with running a golf program drenched with success.
