BURLINGTON, ON – Lauren Greenlief is a Canadian national champion for the second time, and she didn’t need to swing a club on Friday to do it. Due to inclement weather and heavy water pooling on the golf course, the final round was cancelled at the 2026 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO at the Burlington Golf & Country Club in Burlington, Ont.
The sunny skies and warm temperatures during the first two rounds were replaced with less-than-ideal conditions as heavy rain and thunderstorms halted play at 8:45 a.m. for over three hours with the majority of the field unable to tee off on Friday. The decision was made shortly before noon to conclude play at 36 holes as the golf course became unplayable.
Greenlief of Oakton, Va. finished the tournament at 13-under following rounds of 65-66-131 to win her second Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship by seven shots.
“It feels great, it’s always great to get a win and it’s great to get a win at a national championship in a field with 80 plus players, it feels good to put a really solid week together,” said Greenlief shortly after the tournament’s cancellation announcement to players.
Greenlief was scheduled to tee off 11:20 a.m. and despite the weather she continued to stay in her process and prepare accordingly.
“I did my stretching and warmups the same way I would otherwise, I’ve been around golf a long time so I’ve done many of these before so you just have to be patient and take what’s given to you and just try to stay in your process as much as possible.”
Despite not being able to finish the tournament as she would have liked her return to the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship was memorable.
“Wonderful week, exciting for me to see how much this event has grown, when I won in Newfoundland in 2017 the event was still combined with the Senior [Championship], to see it become its own standalone event and see the field grow is really exciting for women’s golf and I am excited to come back and play again and see where the tournament goes,” she added.
When asked if it would be another nine years before we see her again, Greenlief replied with a smile and a laugh.
“I am going to try my very best to be back sooner, it will definitely not be nine years, hopefully next year.”
Greenlief becomes the fourth multi-time winner of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship (2017, 2026) joining Christina Proteau (six-time winner: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2021), Judith Kyrinis (four-time winner: 2016, 2019, 2023, 2025) and Shelly Stouffer (two-time winner: 2022, 2024).
Taya Battistella of Bellingham, Wash. finished as runner-up to Greenlief but won Mid-Master division, finishing the tournament at 6-under. Connor Macon of Charlotte, N.C. finished third in the Mid-Amateur Championship and runner-up in the Mid-Master division at 2-under.
Three past champions Judith Kyrinis of Thornhill, Ont., Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay, B.C. and Terrill Samuel of Etobicoke, Ont. finished tied for third in the Mid-Master division along with Nonie Marler of Vancouver, B.C. at 4-over.
In addition to winning the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur title, Greenlief has earned exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J. from August 29 – September 3, as well as a spot in the field for the 2027 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and 2027 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, both presented by BDO.
Greenlief was entering the final year of her exemption into the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship having won the event in 2015. She added that having the exemption awarded for the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur champion is an amazing thing that provides a great opportunity and further strengthens the championship.
On Thursday, Team British Columbia successfully defended the Inter-Provincial Team title to mark three straight championships at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, keeping the Margaret Todd Trophy on the West Coast.
Team British Columbia was represented by Nonie Marler of Vancouver, B.C., Aram Choi of Surrey, B.C. and Veronica Ivy of Victoria, B.C. who finished with a combined score of 5-over. This marks the second consecutive year that the trio has won the title at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Marler’s even par 72 and Choi’s 1-over 73 counted towards the team’s total on Thursday, with Ivy’s even par 72 and Marler’s 4-over 76 counting on Wednesday.
Team Ontario finished as runner-up at 25-over and was represented by Mary-Ann Hayward of St. Thomas, Ont., Kiley Rodrigues of Kingston, Ont. and Jessie Mercer of Kingston, Ont. Team Quebec rounded out the top three at 28-over and was represented by Gabrielle Davidson of Dorval, Que., Marie-Andree Ouimet of Hawkesbury, Ont. and Suzanne Ricard of Montreal, Que.
The field of 87 players featured female golfers (aged 25-and-over as of August 5, 2026), with a handicap index of 12.0 or less. Those aged 40-and-over as of August 5, 2026, also competed in the Mid-Master division.
