David Miller & Rob Moore combine for win at PGA of Ontario Pro / Pro event

GEORGETOWN, ONT. (MAY 16, 2016) – After a one year hiatus, the PGA of Ontario returned with the Merit Golf Vacations Pro/Pro Team Series to the Club at North Halton.  Course conditions were fantastic and early on it looked like the weather conditions were going to match those of the golf course.  58 two-player best ball teams took to the course on Monday, the field littered with previous Champions, and scores reflected the caliber of skill we have in the association.  The Pro/Pro Team Series is the première team event on the PGA of Ontario tournament schedule and top spot does not come easy.

As the day carried on, the weather made a turn for the worse.  The winds at times were virtually unplayable and combined with the cold rain, it made for an interesting second half of the round.  At days end there were two teams left standing: Danny King (The Performance Academy at Magna) and Ed Maunder (Deerfield Golf Club), who combined for eight birdies; and  David Miller (Hamilton Golf & CC) and Rob Moore (Galt Country Club), both at 7-under 65.  In PGA of Ontario team events, a tie is decided by one playoff hole, and if no winner is crowned, then there is a 150 yard closest to the pin shootout.

King and Maunder fired first on the 152 yard par 3.  The pair both landed on the green, were both pin high, but they both had tricky, sliding putts coming back to the hole.  Soon after Miller stepped up and hit his ball it was clear that, not only was his ball headed straight at the flag, but this playoff was as good as over.

Long time team of David Miller and Rob Moore weren’t sure about how many years they have played together in this event, but they knew it had been over twelve.  It had been eight years since the duo last tasted victory together, but today they returned to the Merit Golf Vacations Pro/Pro winners circle.  They came close in 2010, but Bob Panasik and partner Ryan Hughes bested them in a playoff of their own.  “We had a really slow start today,” Miller said after they sealed the victory.  “Rob really got us kick started by holing a plugged bunker shot on #4, and we got hot after that.”

“We have been playing together for a long time and I think our game really compliments each other,” Moore added.  “I hit it longer than he does, and he’s a little more precise.”  They finished with eight birdies and one bogey on their way to taking home their share of the $16,000 purse.  For full results and scorecards from the Merit Golf Vacations Pro/Pro Team Series CLICK HERE
