GolfNorth expands to Alberta with acquisition of Wolf Creek Resort
GolfNorth Properties (Canada’s largest golf course consolidator) is excited to announce that they are ‘Alberta Bound’, with the acquisition of Wolf Creek Golf Resort, in Ponoka, Alberta. GolfNorth will take over operations on March 15, 2023; the purchase includes the Old Course, the Links Course, and the lodgings.
Wolf Creek boasts two original Rod Whitman designs (Cabot Links, Sagebrush, Blackhawk). The Old Course is a tour-tested, pure inland links course, winding in and out of the Wolf Creek bed. Each hole provides a variety of strategical options for players to discover. Creative shot-making and precision are the key to playing your best on the Old Course.
Whitman followed up with an excellent example of the evolution of old-world golf design with the Links Course. Cut through vast natural sand dunes and longer off the back tees, the Links Course demands the best from all areas of your game. Additional fairway width gives the Links Course beautiful rolling contours unique to sand belt golf courses.
A fixture for 13 years on the Canadian Tour, Wolf Creek hosted the Alberta Open, receiving worldwide publicity and exposure, ranked as one of the nation’s best courses by young touring professionals and SCOREGolf Top 100.
The on-site Wolf Creek RV Resort includes seventy lots, with a range of both short and long-term rentals. There is also a rental Lodge which is perfect for a golf getaway with friends or family.
GolfNorth President Shawn Evans had this to say, “GolfNorth is very happy to have a foothold in Alberta, and we wish to extend a warm welcome to members and players alike. We’ve met with principal staff members, and want to welcome them to the GolfNorth family as well. We’re thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be the stewards of these two excellent golf courses for years to come.”
GolfNorth plans to be a force for positive disruption in Central Alberta, as the two courses are conveniently located on the Queen Elizabeth II highway between Edmonton and Calgary. Members and regular players will continue to enjoy these excellent courses, but GolfNorth will use the RV Park, the Lodge, and Stay & Play Packages—to expose Wolf Creek to the rest of Canada and the World.
