Lorne Rubenstein to co-author book on 1997 Masters with Tiger Woods

Ontario Golf News

Last December, as his 40th birthday neared, a story was published about Tiger Woods by TIME Magazine. The author? Ontario-based writer Lorne Rubenstein who was lauded for his work. It was considered one of the most insightful interviews and follow-up stories with one of the greatest talents the sport of golf has ever seen.

Now the pair will team up again, this time for a full volume centred on the 1997 Masters, a seminal moment in the career of Woods.

Grand Central Publishing revealed the deal on Monday, June 6th. The book will come out in hardcover, e-book, and audio editions in March of 2017. It will coincide with the 20th anniversary of Tiger’s win at the 1997 Masters.

“The 1997 Masters was one of the most important tournaments in my life for many reasons,” Tiger said. “I think about the hug with my dad and all the events that went on that week. A lot of people know generally about that tournament, but this gives me a chance to tell in detail what happened on and off the course.”

“It is a great privilege to help bring to light this vivid account by the legendary Tiger Woods of his barrier-breaking win at the 1997 Masters Tournament,” said Gretchen Young, Executive Editor at GCP. “For the first time he shares with readers the personal, professional and societal challenges he experienced in reaching and winning the tournament, providing keen insight from one of the game’s all-time greats on the Masters then and now, as well as on the sport itself.”

While attending a Golf Canada Media Day yesterday Rubenstein shared with OGN that he is already met for two full days to interview Tiger for the book, with multiple interview sessions expected in the near future.

Rubenstein began his golf writing career in 1980 and has co-authored books with multiple golf champions including George Knudson, Nick Price, Mike Weir, and Jim Nelford. He has authored 13 books in all.

Rubenstein is a member of both the Ontario and Canadian Golf Halls of Fame.
