Simon Reyers & Peter Sauerbrei capture Ontario Better Ball Championship
Simon Reyers and Peter Sauerbrei, former club-mates from Cataraqui Golf & Country Club, teamed up on May 12th to the Ontario Men’s Better-Ball Championship.
The duo survived a four-team playoff to win the opening championship event of the 2016 Golf Ontario season.
Both players are reinstated amateurs who played their collegiate golf in Michigan, Sauerbrei at Eastern Michigan and Reyers at Detroit Mercy.
Now playing out of Brampton Golf Club (Reyers) and Cataraqui (Sauerbrei), respectively, the pair were one of four teams to traverse the Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto with a score of 6 under par, 66, in regulation play.
Facing off against New Hamburg’s Josh Hunke (Deer Ridge GC) and Kitchener’s Ryan Kings (Deer Ridge GC), Woodbridge’s Philip Arci (Caledon Woods GC) and Barrie’s Ernie Vettese (Tangle Creek G&CC) and Oakville’s Scott Banks (Blue Springs GC) and Burlington’s Nicholas Freeman (Heron Point Golf Links) all went back onto the course to produce a winner.
Arci and Vetttesse were eliminated on the first extra hole.
On the 2nd extra stanza Sauerbrei converted a thirty-foot birdie putt to seal the victory.
