St. George’s hires Jason Clarke as new GM and COO

St. George’s Golf and Country Club welcomes Jason Clarke as new Chief Operating Officer, effective May 16, 2016. Mr. Clarke has served as Chief Operating Officer at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club since 2012 and brings to St. George’s 17 years of private club management experience.

David Imrie, the Board Chair commented, “The membership is very excited to welcome Jason to St. George’s. In today’s private club environment, it is important that St. George’s is progressive and forward-thinking and remains committed to providing our members with a world-class golf course and an excellent club experience. The Board is confident that Jason’s strategic planning, capital projects and operations experience makes him the right person to deliver upon these objectives, and to usher St. George’s into a new chapter, while preserving and honouring our Club’s legacy.”

Designed by Stanley Thompson in 1929, St. George’s is currently ranked #41 in the world by Golf Digest. The classically designed course underwent an extensive restoration of its greens in 2014 led by consulting golf course architects, Tom Doak and Ian Andrew. With the greens in their second year and the upcoming golf season just weeks away, excitement is mounting, with the course expected to be in very good playing condition. Jason’s appointment at the beginning of this season offers him the opportunity to share his expertise with our members and management team as we look to the future at St. George’s.

“St. George’s Golf and Country Club is a Canadian gem. I am honoured and thrilled to be a part of this venerable Club,” says Jason. “St. George’s delivers world-class services and I look forward to working with the Board, the Members and the Management Team to enhance the member experience. The philosophy is simple; from the time you enter the property to the time you leave the parking lot every moment must be outstanding.”

During his four year term, Jason enhanced member services, oversaw the completion of $4.2 million dollars in golf course renovations, improved Golf Digest rankings to number 21 in Canada and executed on a strategic plan that led to a successful member vote in December 2015 for $8 million dollars in capital projects.

“For more than 85 years St. George’s has been a leader in the private club industry and will continue to do so,” said Mr. Clarke. “The prudent capital investments made by the Members, particularly the new greens, will greatly assist in delivering exceptional course conditioning. As we move into the future it is essential to create programs, services and amenities which are relevant to the needs of our Members and future Members but are respectful of our history and traditions.”

Jason’s previous management experience includes holding the COO/GM position at Toronto Lawn Tennis Club and General Manager at the Manitoba Club and the Halifax Club, all high-end, historic clubs offering a variety of amenities and services.

As Chief Operating Officer at St. George’s Golf and Country Club, he will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the operation, including member services, capital planning, member acquisition and strategic planning.
