The Wilfrid Laurier Hawks hosted this year’s edition of the University Athletics (OUA) Golf Championships, and they earned their fair share of the medals along with their nearest rivals, the University of Waterloo.

Sixteen Ontario schools were represented at the championship conducted at the Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo, Ontario on October 14/15 weekend. As is seemingly tradition, the athletes had to deal with windy and cold conditions as they fought for their respective titles.

An eighteen stroke margin earned the home squad Laurier Hawks the victory in the women’s team competition, posting totals of 225 on each day to best the University of Toronto. The University of Windsor Team earned the bronze medal.

The Hawks were propelled to the win by Lauren Bevan who recorded rounds of 74-71 to earn the individual gold medal. She beat out Lexi McKay of the University of Western Ontario by two shots, while her teammate, Kristi Godkin earned solo third after owning the first round lead.

The Men’s competition proved to be a bit of a blowout for the Waterloo team who posted under par team scores each day. Their -3 total for the championship was thirteen shots better than the University of Western Ontario team, while the Laurier men settled for the bronze placing.

Waterloo was pushed by the excellent play of Zach Burt and Jack Deighan. They both finished the event under par and took gold and silver individual medals. Deighan shared the silver placement with Conor Gaudet of Laurier, who was coming in hot to the week after a couple of wins.
