17-year-old Anna Huang wins for third time on Ladies European Tour
RABAT, Morocco — Anna Huang delivered a stunning Sunday charge to capture the Lalla Meryem Cup and make Ladies European Tour history with her third career victory.
The 17-year-old Canadian closed with a brilliant 7-under 66 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, overcoming a six-shot deficit to finish at 14-under par and earn a one-shot victory over Australia’s Kelsey Bennett.
Huang’s dramatic comeback featured six birdies and an eagle, highlighted by an explosive start that immediately thrust her into contention. After opening with a birdie at the 1st, the Vancouver native eagled the par-5 2nd before adding four straight birdies from holes 5 through 8.
Despite a bogey at the 9th, Huang stayed composed on the back nine and added another birdie at the par-4 14th before closing with four consecutive pars to secure the title.
The victory marks Huang’s third career Ladies European Tour win, making her the youngest player ever to reach that milestone at 17 years, six months and 24 days old.
“I’m honestly just so shocked right now,” Huang said following the victory. “I was just trying to stay patient and focus on my own game.”
The win continues an extraordinary stretch for one of Canada’s brightest young stars. Huang entered the week coming off a tie for third at the Amundi German Masters and recently secured her place in the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open.
Saturday’s triumph in Morocco also adds to an already impressive international resume that includes victories at the La Sella Open and the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
With another breakthrough performance on the global stage, Huang continues to establish herself as one of the rising stars in women’s golf — and one of Canada’s most exciting young athletes.
