Management team at Devil’s Pulpit grows with several well-known additions
In a letter to members of Devil’s Pulpit, General Manager Rob Roxburgh welcomed several new hires in F&B and golf operations:
Please join me in welcoming our new Chefs and Hospitality Managers that have joined us in recent days.
Executive Chef, Michael Cutajar comes to us with a decade of private club experience. Formerly the Executive Chef at The National, he is recognized in the industry as being an innovator when it comes to cuisine and presentation. Understanding that our Members are looking to strike a balance between casual fare and fine dining, Chef Michael is already working on building new menus for both courses. Executive Sous Chef, Brad Meagher has worked alongside Chef Michael for years, and is a consummate professional who prides himself on flavour and efficiencies. In the back of the house, we’ve assembled the finest team I know, and these gentlemen are committed to the Members, their staff, and their craft.
In the area of food service and hospitality we’ve added two food service professionals to our management team. Scott Tye and Nasir (Naz) Sayyar worked with our chefs at The National for six years. Scott’s club experience has seen him move from a senior role at Mississaugua G.C. to overseeing the entire hospitality and clubhouse operation at The National before arriving here. Inventory management and creativity are his strengths, but training and mentoring staff is his real passion. Scott’s management responsibilities will be shared at both courses. Naz will earn the respect of the Members and staff with his positive can-do attitude, sense of urgency and thorough approach to service. Devil’s Pulpit is a natural fit for this up-and-coming leader.
Our initial focus will be to re-build the food service operation at the Paintbrush. Moving forward we’ll be using fresh, not frozen ingredients to create a menu that matches the course’s design and exceeds Member expectations. Establishing steps of service and new standards for the service staff at the Brush has been met with a renewed sense of pride and enthusiasm. The new menu will be launched in the coming days and the Men’s Night BBQ will feel and taste completely different to anything we’ve had in the past. In the coming weeks, the focus will shift to the Pulpit where we’ll build a critical path to achieve our short-term goals.
In golf we have two of the most respected professionals in the game coming to Devils Pulpit.
The name Euan Dougal may be familiar to many of you, but you haven’t seen his face for a few years. Euan was an Associate Professional at Beacon Hall Golf Club and then the Director of Golf at Coppinwood G.C. from 2005-2008. He moved to Scottsdale, AZ to take over the Director’s role at Silverleaf Golf Club, one of the most prestigious private clubs in the United States. After eleven years at Silverleaf, Euan was asked to oversee the golf operation at Scottsdale National Golf Club for Bob Parsons, owner of PXG Golf Clubs. Euan and his family have been waiting for the right opportunity to move back to Toronto and coming to Devil’s Pulpit as our new Director of Golf was exactly what he was looking for. An engaged leader both on and off the golf course, we’re in good hands having someone with his varied experiences and pedigree direct our golf operation. Personally, I’ve known Euan for 20 years and he’s one of the finest golf professionals I’ve ever come across. We’re anticipating his arrival at the Club in early August after he follows the necessary 14-day quarantine protocol.
The reigning provincial and national teacher of the year is coming to our practice tee. Scott Cowx was the PGA of Ontario and PGA of Canada Teacher of the Year Award winner in 2019. For years Scott has been recognized as a respected instructor for golfers of all skill levels, coach to PGA Tour players including Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes, and the cultivator of elite junior talent. For the remainder of the 2020 season and beyond, Scott will be offering programs and individual instruction to our Members and walking the range giving some tips and introducing himself. In addition to helping the membership, Scott will be mentoring our current golf professionals to help them better understand swing mechanics and hone their craft.
