Product Review: TRUE Linkswear LUX G

Dear Bob

You asked me about new golf shoes, specifically the spikeless models, and I have something I think you’ll like.

Earlier in the season the folks at TRUE Linkswear sent me a pair of their new LUX G shoes to test. Right out of the box they looked good – a nice combination of white and grey with an interwoven coated mesh upper – and smelled good too. (LUX G also comes in black and white and all white).

As you may remember, I never put a new pair of shoes into play until I’ve tested them off the course. The last thing you want is to find out half-way through a round that you have sore feet or blisters. That can really put a damper on your game.

So, I put the LUX Gs on and went for a walk in the woods.

Very comfortable, nice and snug in all the right places, and given that the ground was a bit muddy, very happy to report the fully waterproof shoes didn’t leak. After an hour or so, I was confident the LUX Gs could make the transition to the course. However, that’s when I screwed up.

Upon returning from my walk, I cleaned off the shoes and put them in the closet. Typically, I’d put golf shoes back in the car, but they were so comfortable I kept using them for walks and hikes, all the while forgetting about (or procrastinating) the golf course test. They had become my go-to shoes for walking.

A question from the TRUE folks reminded me that I owed them a review, so on a beautiful sunny day in mid-September, I headed for the course, planning to walk 18 holes in the shoes. But first a quick trip to the range to warm up and run a couple of other tests.

As you know, I’m more of a rhythm and tempo guy than a swing-for-the-fences type, so never too worried about my feet slipping. However, I was curious about the spikeless sole pattern so, risking severe injury, I tried a few humongous swings that would make John Daly proud and found that the shoes provided a solid grip. I  believe they’d even hold firm to one of your monstrous swipes too Bob.

The TRUE LUX G features a mountaineering grade rubber TOUR level tread system.

The shoes actually felt secure and stable on my feet during every type of swing. There was no movement inside the shoe and no pressure points that might be a source of irritation or pain.

The ditch beside the range gave me an opportunity to try a few swings from uneven lies. Again, no slippage and no issue on uphill, sidehill or downhill shots. A few patrons on the range gave me puzzled looks but no golfers were harmed during this test. So, on to the course.

One of the things I like about the LUX G is the generous area for your toes. Like some other square-toed brands, there is ample room for your toes to spread out and perform as they’re supposed to rather than being cramped and screaming for freedom.

The LUX Gs are incredibly light – just 11.2 oz – yet very stable. The mid-sole Wanderlux cushioning provides lots of comfort as I knew from my many hikes and by the end of a round, there was never a rush to ‘get outa my shoes’ like there sometimes is with heavier footwear.

You may recall that September was a pretty nice month weatherwise – warm and dry with no humidity and no bugs. Perfect golf weather. But we did have a couple of rain showers, so I was able to complete my testing in adverse conditions. Happy to report my feet stayed dry and there was no slippage on any shots.

After my experience with these shoes, I’m happy to recommend them to any golfer looking for a lightweight, comfortable, waterproof shoe. Bob, I think you and your Size 14 feet would be very happy with them too.

The TRUE LUX Gs retail in Canada for $245 CDN. For further information, click HERE.
