First Look: 2017 adidas Spring & Summer Apparel

One of the things that has always puzzled me watching a PGA Tour event is why some players – hey I’m talking to you Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els – persist in wearing super baggy trousers that flap wildly in the breeze and become truly dangerous whenever the wind really gets up. It’s not a good look.

Maybe you can chalk it up to some of the older players not feeling comfortable in modern fabrics with a more tapered fit. But if they only knew.

I was definitely a little guilty of that myself but on a recent jaunt to warmer climates, I was fully decked out in new adidas gear – Ultimate 365 Tapered Fit pants and Ultimate 365 shorts. They have a four-way stretch fabric, which I think is good, even if I’m not sure I can stretch four ways. The fabric is lightweight and moisture-wicking with a water repellent finish. I can vouch for that last part too as I’m prone to drip (spill) water on myself at the most inopportune times.

Last month, I participated in a forum discussion on whether pros should be allowed to wear shorts during PGA tour competitions. One of the panellists suggested that pants made of modern fabrics were just as cool as wearing shorts so it likely wasn’t a big deal to them. During one of our rounds in Naples, I mis-read the forecast – a genuine brain cramp converting Fahrenheit to Celsius – and showed up on the first tee wearing a pair of black Ultimate 365 pants with the temperature hovering around 25 and eventually climbing above 30.

No problem! As advertised the adidas pants were cool and comfortable throughout the round.

Adidas has also introduced a new line of women’s fashion called Rangewear that is designed to be worn on or off the golf course. The collection includes Rangewear polos; Rangewear skorts; a Rangewear hoodie; and a Rangewear dress. Each line comes in a wide selection of colours to complement the other pieces as well as other adidas fashion products and footwear.
